SWIM LESSONS ROCKLIN, CA

Green Fish

The Green Fish level is where young swimmers begin to develop the essential skills needed to swim more independently. At this stage, the most important focus is on listening and following directions. Swimmers who are comfortable sitting safely on the step or holding onto the wall, and who are ready to follow simple instructions, are prepared to take the exciting next step—progressing from assisted swimming drills to unassisted swimming.

Classes at this level introduce a variety of fun and engaging exercises that build strength, coordination, and water confidence. Swimmers practice kangaroo hops, which not only reinforce breath control but also emphasize safety by teaching children how to come up for air. Reaching for the step or wall gradually advances into torpedoes, helping swimmers understand proper body position and movement through the water.

As skills progress, children learn to control their kicks so they can move efficiently while maintaining balance. They also begin working on scooping arm movements, which lay the foundation for the front crawl stroke. With continued practice, these skills blend together into more coordinated swimming techniques.

In addition, swimmers are introduced to pop-up breaths—a key safety skill that teaches them how to lift their head for air while continuing to move forward. Safety jumps are also practiced, giving swimmers the confidence to enter the water safely and return to the wall.

The Green Fish level combines fun, structure, and safety to prepare swimmers for more independence in the pool while keeping lessons engaging and exciting.
